Bambi Medical receives a grant of 2.4 million euros from the European Commission

Dutch MedTech start-up company Bambi Medical developing a neonatal vital sign monitoring system, received a grant of EUR 2.4 million under the SME Instrument Phase 2 program. This grant will allow Bambi Medical to finalize product development and validate its solution through a multi-center clinical trial in 6 European countries. This will enable Bambi Medical to scale-up faster in Europe.
The SME Instrument is part of Horizon 2020, the EU framework program managed by the European Commission. The SME instrument offers Europe's brightest and boldest Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs) the chance to request funding for breakthrough ideas with the potential to create entirely new markets or revolutionize existing ones. The phase 2 grant is for innovation projects underpinned by a strategic business plan.

The additional funding helps us accelerate in bringing our solution to the market and contributing to a better start of life for 130.000 preemies in Europe only each year” said the CEO and founder of the company Fabio Bambang Oetomo.
The grant was awarded to Bambi Belt B.V. which is a 100% Bambi Medical daughter company. This year 14 Dutch SME’s have been granted the SME phase 2 on a total of 4102 applications showing the competitiveness of the program.
About Bambi Medical Founded in 2016 the Dutch start-up company Bambi Medical develops its first product a wireless neonatal vital sign monitoring system - the Bambi Belt Solution. The original concept for the system was created by neonatologist and founder of the company, Sidarto Bambang Oetomo at the department of Industrial Design at TU/e. The Bambi Belt Solution effectively measures vital signs (ECG, respiration) of premature babies in a skin friendly and wireless way.
The Bambi Belt Solution aims to replace the current global standard of adhesive electrodes. It will help reduce the pain and stress attributed to the use of adhesive electrodes. The Bambi Belt Solution will also facilitate easier handling by nurses and parents for optimized Kangaroo Mother Care, the skin-to-skin contact between parents and baby, which according to the World Health Organization has proven to be essential for parent-child bonding while Improving long-term clinical outcomes.
Bambi Medical has already received wide interest from hospitals. More than 20 hospitals from all over Europe and Asia expressed their intention to participate in clinical trials and buy the Bambi Belt Solution once available on the market.
On the product development side Bambi Medical collaborates with partners Holst Centre and ItoM Medical. The company also works closely with the Maxima Medisch Centrum Veldhoven.
Bambi Medical is a graduate of HighTechXL accelerator program in Eindhoven, participated in the Garage+ Startup Global Program in Taiwan and was a Global Finalist of Get in the Ring in Singapore.
