In the online series #SustainableCampus we share stories about our sustainability approach as Campus, and how we would like to become the Most Sustainable Campus in Europe.

A lot of waste in the form of coffee grounds comes from our multi-tenant buildings. And in the restaurants on The Strip, fruit and vegetables are thrown away. This waste together is also called 'swill'. Swill was always disposed of separately by our waste collector Beelen. Beelen took care of the fermentation of swill with which energy was recovered.

To reduce the pressure on the environment, Beelen, Eurest (restaurants on The Strip) and Campus Site Management have decided to install a composting machine on the Campus. So the swill no longer has to leave the Campus, and we can process it ourselves.

What we do with it? We turn it into compost. Which can then be used in our vegetable garden, for example.

In 2020, the composting machine processed 40,000 kilos of swill into compost! #circularity
