The Connected Ambulance is an ambulance containing special equipment and a flawless 5G connection. Philips, the GGD Brabant-Zuidoost and the Catharina Hospital are working together with VodafoneZiggo and Ericsson in this pilot. This team wants to show the possibilities of 5G technology for healthcare.
More data and priority 5G makes it possible to send more data, but the technology of ‘radio slicing’ creates ways to give certain data traffic ‘priority’ over other users. By reserving a separate piece of capacity of the 5G connection which the ambulance uses, the staff can communicate with the doctor in the hospital without delay and hitches. That way, a diagnosis is made faster, an operating room is prepared earlier and a patient is better served.
Ultrasound in real-time During this pilot, a doctor watches ultrasound images of a patient who is still on the way to the hospital. The doctor can advise the ambulance team about starting the right treatment based on the ultrasound images that he can see in real-time and high resolution. In case of a medical emergency, every second counts and it is important for the patient to start the right treatment as soon as possible.
5G Hub Eindhoven This project is part of the 5G Hub in Eindhoven, a partnership between VodafoneZiggo, Ericsson, Brainport Development and the High-Tech Campus. On the Eindhoven campus, the 5G Hub offers a space where partners and other interested parties come together to discuss, discover and develop. Several innovative projects are taking place here, for example collaborations with football club PSV, pop temple De Effenaar, several entrepreneurs, universities and colleges.
