A few years ago, sand martins took up residence on the south side of High Tech Campus Eindhoven. In order to provide the birds with a good and permanent breeding ground, a special sand martin wall has been constructed in collaboration with the municipality of Eindhoven.

Sand martins are special birds that breed in steep walls and catch and eat many insects flying above water. The Campus wanted to contribute to make life better for these animals.

Campus Site Management has the ambition to be the most sustainable Campus in Europe. In order to give the birds a good permanent breeding ground, a special sand martin wall has been realized by the water in collaboration with the municipality of Eindhoven. This fits in well with the ecological landscape management on the Campus and the ambitions of the municipality.

Alderman Rik Thijs: “We think biodiversity in our city is important and encouraging these kinds of walls is certainly part of that. During your lunch walk on Campus this spring you can check whether the birds have already returned from Africa and whether they are already using it. A spectacular sight!”

Curious where to find them?

If you start at The Strip, walk towards the farm next to parking garage P6. If you then walk around the HTC 60 (NXP) building, you will automatically reach the sand martin wall.
