Vention Technologies has grown into a serious end-to-end product development company since it came to High Tech Campus Eindhoven, because tech-oriented companies – big and small – are always working on The Next Big Thing.

While Vention has matured as a company, it’s still powered by youthful ingenuity and energy.

The Vention Technologies team

Frank Poort, co-founder and technical director at Vention, has always had an innate talent and a passion for technology. As a child, he loved taking apart complex devices, putting them back together or transforming them into something completely new. While enrolled at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), Poort turned these lifelong talents into a company, Vention Technologies.

Becoming an end-to-end product development company

In 2025, Vention has embraced its identity as a fast-growing scale-up based at HTCE. While holding onto a passion for product development, the Vention team focuses on delivering innovative, smart and connected devices from idea to production.

“We start with an idea and end with an industrialized product delivered to the end customer,” says Poort.

Vention provides expertise to customers from initial concept and prototype to production, and everything in between. The customer defines the problem. The Vention team defines the product that solves the problem and then implements the entire product development process. Vention continues to work with customers, offering support after production.

Their focus isn’t limited to developing and producing a product; Vention is also determined to improve the approach to development itself. They’re achieving smarter, faster, higher-quality development with their engineers and designers invention of a modular plug-and-play rapid development platform. Vention successfully launched that platform, Wockel®, which features pre-configured hardware packs with embedded software and electronics that can be reused in its designs.

Wockel is an innovation accelerator developed by Vention. It’s based on 10 years of experience in smart and connected product development. By cleverly re-using knowledge from finalized products, Vention can accelerate product development by months, allowing early user verification.

The platform consists of reusable blocks tuned to different functionality – from a motion sensing pack to an LTE communication gateway hardware. You just pick the modules you need and in 15 minutes, you’ve got the basis of the software and can directly start testing, Poort said.

“Everything we do has a positive impact on society”

Vention’s ideal customer is one with a lot of domain expertise and an interest in creating long-term collaborations. They know their market very well and need Vention’s skills and knowledge of electronics, software and product development to create the product.

For example, a technical consultancy company might come to Vention to develop and produce process measuring sensors to accurately measure production processes. After working with Vention on the initial product, partnerships often evolve into multiple follow-on products.

Aligning with a core HTCE impact goal, nearly all the products Vention works on have a positive impact on society, says Poort. Vention’s portfolio of product development demonstrates this impact; they’ve worked on products to help Parkinson patients keep mobile, systems for railway safety, products that increase the uptime of manufacturing equipment, and so much more.

Take HTCE resident Plasmacure for example; they worked with Vention in developing their innovative wound healing device, which applies bactericidal cold plasma directly to chronic wounds for faster healing.

During that development, the team learned a lot about medical certification. “We really put our engineering minds into more of a regulatory mindset,” said Poort.

The company has also found a niche in the area of energy management and energy transition.

“A lot of changes are going on,” says Poort about the energy transition market, which used to be very traditional. “This market is completely transforming.”

Growing from startup to scale-up at High Tech Campus

Vention started as a prototype design house for fellow startups, designing everything from apps to an electric kick bike. Fast forward 10 years of hard-won experience, the company now targets mature SMEs and corporations.

When Vention outgrew its original Eindhoven office, it quickly realized that High Tech Campus Eindhoven was the place to grow and evolve as a company. “It was a logical choice for us,” remembers Poort, since the company already had customers and suppliers on Campus. In this critical startup phase, the proximity on Campus helped Vention build relationships and develop leads for new customers.

After moving into its original office at High Tech Plaza in HTC 12, many Campus residents became Vention’s customers, which fueled their early growth. The team found clients through word-of-mouth and networking opportunities on Campus such as Drinks, Pitches & Demos. And they didn’t only gain clients - they also leveraged the ecosystem to get guidance and advice from these Campus residents, helping them grow as a company and as a team.

When Vention needed more room to accommodate its team of 25 and its specialized equipment, the company found its current home at HTC 27.

Vention giving back to young companies

The Campus ecosystem still provides support as Vention grows its team. However, now that Vention is firmly in scale-up mode, the roles have reversed. Vention is now the one giving advice to young Campus startups.

“We help out other small companies,” says Poort. “We mentor startups and I like to give back what I received. Now we have the experience … we’ve built a lot of awesome products, but what I’m most proud of is the team that’s building those products,” Poort said.

Vention is building a company culture on a campus where collaboration, teamwork and innovation go hand-in-hand. Whether competing in Campus sports tournaments or taking a midday walk by the water, the team understands great ideas emerge in an inspiring, fun environment. “We want to have fun while building something cool. It’s nice to have a little bit of fun at the end of your work day,” says Poort about how the team makes use of its Campus surroundings.

Now the Vention team is positioned to scale new heights.

“For the last two years, we set a strategy to focus more on end-to-end development and delivering those products. The first big product deliveries will happen in 2025, and we’re going to scale that over the next couple of years. It’s going to be quite big growth,” says Poort about its next production runs that will soon be delivered to its customers.
